What’s The Difference?
CLASSIC LASHES are a 1:1 ratio of lash extension to natural lash. Because we apply 1 extension to each natural lash, we are limited to the fullness we are able to create. The result is a beautifully natural look, similar to that of using a really great mascara. We block off 2 hours for a Classic Full Set.
VOLUME LASHES create a fuller look by adhering volume “fans” consisting of 2 or more (thinner, lighter) extensions to each natural lash. These fans are able to fill in lash gaps and create additional overall density. We block off 3 hours for a Volume Full Set.
Q & A
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are not to be confused with strip lashes “or cluster lashes”. The eyelash extensions we apply at iLash NY are individual, semi-permanent, glossy synthetic lashes that are applied to your natural lashes to make them look longer, fuller and thicker. It is a single lash procedure.
What do they look like?
The lashes look like real lashes but come in different lengths, thicknesses, curls and even colors! We can achieve a natural look or a more dramatic look- whichever you prefer.
How do they feel?
The lashes are weightless!
How are the lashes applied?
The lashes are applied one lash at a time. We isolate a natural eyelash and then adhere a single lash extension to the top of it by using a special bonding adhesive made exclusively for eyelash extensions. This is done approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the lash or the adhesive has contact with your skin. Again, the lashes are NOT applied to your skin-just your eyelash hair.
Do they hurt?
NO. When properly applied you should not feel them at all. They are lightweight and feel totally natural.
How long do they last?
Indefinitely with Touch-Up appointments. Natural lashes are constantly shedding and new ones are growing in their place. Extensions will fall out along with your natural lash when it’s at the end of its growth stage. As the new ones come in, they will need to have extensions attached.
Can I get the lashes for a one-time occasion?
Yes, absolutely recommended for events such as reunions, weddings, honeymoons, vacations, proms, formals, photo shoots, etc.
If I want to keep them, what is the maintenance?
The extensions shed with your natural lash that it is attached to. Growth and shedding cycles are inconsistent and random so to maintain your new look, we recommend having a “Touch-Up” every 2-3 weeks.
How do I know if I am ready for a Touch-Up?
You will know when about 25-30% of your lash extensions have fallen out.
What if I want longer lashes but do not want eyelash extensions?
Use our LashFood. Visit our LashFood page for all the info.
Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone?
Anyone of any age (women AND men) can have eyelash extensions as long as there is a healthy natural lash to adhere the extension onto. Our trained professionals can tell you if your natural lashes are eligible. If you are under the age of 18, your parent must accompany you to the appointment and sign a consent form for you.
Why wouldn’t my eyelashes be “eligible” for extensions?
Some lashes could be too weak, too thin or too kinky/curly. If you are unsure, call us to book a free consultation anytime.
Can I get extensions if I rub my eyes?
If you have a habit of rubbing your eyes, eyelash extensions may not be for you. We want you to avoid rubbing or tugging at your eyes-you do not want to pull out your extensions as it may take your natural lash with it.
Is there a way I can try them before committing to the “initial set”?
Yes, we will apply 10 lashes per eye for $40.00. It’s not a finished look by any means, but at least you can experience the look and feel.
How do I take care of them?
It may seem like a lot to remember, but eyelash extensions are very easy to take care of. The most important thing to be aware of is that “oil is the enemy”. Oil will break down the bond of the adhesive and cause premature loss of the extension. You want to make sure there is no oil in anything you use near your eyes. (foundation, eye creams, makeup, etc.) You do not want to get them wet for 24 hours. Never pull on them. Avoid running water on your lashes. Avoid sauna or hot steam. Use only water based makeup remover. Do not rub your eyes. Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler. Do not sleep on your face. When shampooing or conditioning, do not allow them to run over your eyes. iLash NY sends you home with a home care kit and instructions so you do not have to remember all these “do’s and don’t’s”.
Do I need to use any special products on my eyelash extensions?
None that are required but here at iLash NY, we do recommend purchasing our LashCare Coating Sealer. The LashCare Coating Sealer is a coating agent to protect extended lashes from moisture and oil. Also used to extend the life of eyelash extensions and to make extensions appear more vivid.
What can I expect during my appointment?
While you relax, our licensed, certified professional performs the delicate task of attaching one lash at a time. In fact, most clients fall asleep! We play relaxing music but feel free to bring your iPod, audio book or favorite CD’s!
Can I wear mascara?
We ask that you do not. One advantage of having lash extensions is not needing mascara. Ditch the mascara-you really do not need it! Never use waterproof mascara or oil based mascara on the extensions as it will break the bond of the adhesive. If you ABSOLUTELY have to wear mascara, we ask that you only apply from the middle to the tip. The extensions do better when you do not use mascara! iLash NY does carry one that will not break down the adhesive.
Can I swim, shower, exercise or visit a spa while wearing lashes?
Yes, if these activities are not done excessively. Our special adhesive allows you to shower, swim, exercise, sleep and spa while wearing extensions. You can enjoy your lash extensions with little need to adjust your lifestyle. Please do not swim or spa (even steam from your shower) for 48 hours after your lash procedure to allow the bonding agent to fully cure. The main thing to remember with these activities is that you just want to make sure the extensions are not excessively exposed to heat and moisture.
Can I go tanning?
It is not recommended, however, some of our clients have told us they have gone tanning without any issues. You want to make sure the eyelash extensions are not excessively exposed to heat, so if you do go, please do not go for long lengths of time and protect your lashes. (Remember…tanning is not good for your skin!)
How do I take them off?
You can either let them grow out, or have them professionally removed by a trained professional. Please do not attempt to remove them yourself-we have lash extension remover. It will not harm your natural lashes.
How long does the initial procedure take?
Everyone’s eye shapes are different and so is the volume of their own lashes therefore, it is different for everyone. At iLash NY, we advise clients plan on a 2 hour appointment time. Touch-Ups are 30 minutes or 60 minutes-whichever you book.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
1. Be sure to have all makeup removed from the eye area. The more time we spend doing this for you, the less time we have to apply lashes!
2. Do not drink too much caffeine before your appointment. This can make your lashes flutter which makes it difficult to apply lashes.
3. Please put your cell phone on vibrate or silent.
4. If you would like, bring your ipod to listen to.
5. You may want to visit the ladies room beforehand.
Can I use an eyelash curler?
No, throw your eyelash curler out! Eyelash curlers may pull not only your lash extensions, but also your own lashes. Even if you do not have extensions on, throw the curler out- over time it ruins your natural lashes and could cause bald spots in your natural lashline. Remember, our lash extensions are ALREADY curled! We do sell heated eyelash curlers for those who love curl. These curlers are for TIPS ONLY of extensions and CAN be used on natural lashes.
Can LASHFOOD™ be used with Eyelash Extensions?
YES!!! LASHFOOD™ is a natural and water based product that was designed for use with natural lashes as well as those with eyelash extensions. By using LASHFOOD™, lashes will continue to be strong and receive the conditioning benefits to produce longer, thicker, fuller, stronger lashes. The stronger your lashes, the better for having lash extensions.
Can I apply eyelash extensions to myself?
No, your eyes need to be closed for this procedure. Single lash eyelash extensions can only be applied by trained professionals. Unprofessional application may cause eye injury or lash damage.
Are the iLash NY extension professionals licensed?
Yes, New York State licensed Cosmetologist, or Esthetician.
Are the iLash NY extension professionals certified?
Yes. They are certified and highly trained by Borboleta. Some lash stylists are trained by more than one company.
Why is the procedure so expensive?
Applying eyelash extensions is a very intricate, delicate procedure not to be taken lightly. iLash NY technicians are highly trained and only use the best products on the market today. iLash NY doesn’t cut corners to compromise quality.
